Tangerine & Cream Wedding Dreams

Posted on July 24, 2013

Recently we were given the opportunity to put together lots of intricate, beautiful wedding decorations.  At first we were nervous to do a wedding with tangerine balloons because we worried they would be too overpowering.  When we actually started putting the pieces together we realized it all went beautifully together! What do you think?ImageThe wedding decorations were very complicated in some instances and it took a lot of careful planning; to make sure we ordered enough tulle to cover things and to make sure we had all the balloons blown up in a quick enough fashion while still making sure they looked GREAT for the actual wedding.  Making sure your balloons are blown up correctly can be tricky, especially when the actual set up for the event starts at 8:15 am and you only have till 11 am to finish. This meant that we had to have everything blown up ahead to time. The trick is to not blow everything up at once. For example the helium balloons have to be the last things blown up otherwise they will not hold air or float well at all.  The air-filled balloons are a little different and can be blown up a few days in advance (just be ready to replace popped or deflated balloons day of the event).  The sand weights and shredded ribbon can be done in as much as a month in advance, and will save you lots of time and stress come the week of the actual event.

The dance floor archway has a unique combination of air-filled and helium balloons. As you can see for the four corners a combination of small and large balloons were used to create a step by step tiered column.  The arches that crisscrossed the dance floor were done with helium balloons. These we had to blow up the afternoon before the event to ensure that they would hold their air (we did use high-float to coat the balloons which helps a little but still its important to not blow these up too early).

The head-table was the main part of my job, which also included all the decorations for the guests' tables. As part of the decoration, I put together a bunch of faux flowers to create beautiful combinations of flowers.  The bonus to using faux flowers is they don't need water and they won't wilt.  This large arrangement was the focal point of the head table and the tulle drapery stemmed from it.

I also made four smaller bouquets that I used to give more color along the table. These had a mixture of the tangerine and cream flowers and were completed with a giant floral bow.  They were perfect for putting along the tulle and allowing for another gathering spot for the tulle, as you can see in the picture below.

The other piece of the head table that was under my care was the balloon and tulle drapery backdrop.  This was a bit tricky to do. I had to first measure enough tulle out for each of the five poles that would be the standing part of the design.  Each one measured five feet apart due to the lengthy 22 ft long main head table. But nothing is ever easy when you are creating a masterpiece of art for someone's big day.  Each pole was a different height so when the tulle was cut for each one, I had to also separate it for storing and delivery purposes. I used simple plastic bags marked Pole 1, etc to store each pole's necessities.  Then when it came time at the event for me to decorate the poles I had everything easily at my finger tips and organized too. It made assembly so much easier.  Creating this beautiful backdrop was challenging and fun. I can say I am really proud of the way it turned out to be a fantastically, unique backdrop to the newlyweds and their wedding party.

While I was working on the head table, Holly was hard at work on the entry way.  The bride wanted a draped entry way for each guest to enter through, including herself as she marched down the aisle. So we gave her a beautiful square arch complete with intertwined tulle and flowers.

The bride and groom said their vows underneath this arch.

Martha was busy creating another archway and I was busy setting up the table centerpieces.  All in all, this wedding was a huge team effort that had Angie loading the trucks and vans up for the boys to deliver to us at the event.  We are really proud of the way everything turned out at this event.
